Garland Mill - 150 years of water-sawn lumber, fine furniture and timber frame homes

The Garland Mill is an 1856 water-powered sawmill that is still a commercial enterprise, in addition to being a National Historic Site. Five years before Abraham Lincoln became President, Eban C. Garland built the sawmill in the Pleasant Valley of northern New Hampshire. The mill has been in continuous operation since then, and is still powered by water from the Garland Brook.

In 1986 the design and construction of post and beam buildings was added to the mill's sawing activity. More than a century ago Garland Mill provided heavy timbers for local builders who routinely used mortise and tenon joinery in houses, barns and other structures. Today the mill saws timbers and lumber from native species to meet the needs of its own in-house building company -- Garland Mill Timberframes.
